Overview
Acetic acid solution (0.6% in sterile water) is an essential laboratory solvent used for reconstituting certain research peptides that are insoluble or poorly soluble in neutral aqueous buffers such as bacteriostatic water or normal saline. The mildly acidic pH (approximately 3.0–3.5) provided by 0.6% acetic acid is required to dissolve specific peptides including IGF-1 (Insulin-like Growth Factor-1), DSIP (Delta Sleep-Inducing Peptide), and several other peptides with hydrophobic or cysteine-containing sequences that aggregate at neutral pH.
The 0.6% concentration is a well-established research standard that provides sufficient acidity for peptide dissolution while minimizing acid degradation of sensitive amino acid residues. After dissolving a peptide in acetic acid solution, researchers typically dilute with an appropriate buffer to achieve working pH in experiments. Our sterile formulation is supplied in sealed multi-dose vials for research convenience.
When to Use Acetic Acid vs. Bacteriostatic Water
- Use acetic acid solution for: IGF-1, MGF (Mechano Growth Factor), DSIP, and other peptides with documented poor solubility at neutral pH
- Use bacteriostatic water for: Most peptide hormones (GH peptides, GLP-1 analogs, melanocortins, repair peptides)
- When in doubt, check the solubility notes in the COA or product technical sheet for the specific peptide being reconstituted
- After dissolving in acetic acid, store at 2–8°C and dilute with PBS or culture medium at the time of use for cell work
