Overview
Sermorelin (GRF 1-29, GHRH 1-29 amide) is a synthetic peptide consisting of the first 29 amino acids of the 44-amino acid human growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH), representing the shortest GHRH fragment with full biological activity at the pituitary GHRH receptor. Sermorelin was the first GHRH analog approved by the FDA for diagnostic and therapeutic use in growth hormone deficiency, giving it one of the most extensive safety and efficacy datasets among research GHRH peptides.
As a GHRH analog, sermorelin stimulates pituitary somatotroph cells to produce and secrete growth hormone in a pulsatile, physiologically regulated manner. Unlike exogenous GH, sermorelin preserves somatostatin feedback regulation, meaning GH cannot accumulate to supraphysiological levels — the pituitary's own regulatory mechanisms remain intact. This has made sermorelin a valuable tool in research examining the GH-IGF-1 axis and its downstream effects on body composition, metabolism, and aging.
